| The history of Thai
Massage

Centuries ago, a dynamic bodywork therapy based on yoga
and Ayurveda
was born in the temples of Thailand. In this unique
healing system of Thai Yoga Massage - also called Nuad
Boran and widely known as traditional Thai massage -
the practitioner guides the recipient through a series
of yoga postures while palming and thumbing along the
body's energy ("Sen") lines and pressures
points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive
full body treatment that relieves muscular tension,
improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances
the body energetically.
The origins of traditional Thai Yoga Massage can be
traced back 2,500 years.
It is an ancient form of therapeutic healing that has
roots in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. It is a respected
form of healing practiced today in hospitals and temples
throughout Thailand.
What
is Thai Massage or Thai Yoga Massage?
Imagine being able to stretch, relax,
do a yoga class, and get a soothing massage all at once!
The ancient art of Thai Massage (also called Thai Yoga
Massage) is a way to enjoy all of this. Many recipients
say they even have increased energy, improved vitality
and relief from chronic pain. While Thai Yoga Massage
is not magical, it is a powerful therapy that complements
a healthy lifestyle and wise healthcare choices.
What is a Thai Yoga Massage treatment
like?
Describing Thai Massage is kind of
like trying to describe a flavour - you can say it is
kind of like this, or kind of like that, but the only
way to really know is to taste it! There are also many
styles of Thai Massage (also called Thai Yoga Massage.)
The
Lotus Palm Tradition focuses on flowing
transitions, rocking, rhythmic dance-like movements,
and postures modified for North American physiological
condition.
Thai Massage takes place fully clothed,
on a special mat on the floor. For this reason it is
best for the recipient to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
The practitioner uses yoga-like stretches
while compressing the muscles and mobilizing the joints.
The recipient is guided through a flowing series of
postures for a relaxing, whole-body massage.
How to prepare for your Thai Yoga
Massage
Thai Yoga massage is done while fully
clothed. Please make sure you have a long sleeve t-shirt
long pants and clean socks. Shiny wind pants and restrictive
clothing are not recommended. We suggest either track
pants or yoga pants.
It is best to refrain from eating
for a minimum of one hour before your massage. It is
also suggested that you drink plenty of water the day
of your massage and following your treatment. Massages
range in time from 75 minutes up to 2 hours. We generally
recommend a 90 minute session in order to work the entire
body.
Who can have
Thai Masage?
Thai
massage is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
Modifications can be made for different needs. We are
always willing to discuss concerns before your massage
either by email or telephone. If you have any serious
issues it is best to notify us ahead of time so that
the massage can be modified for you.
You don’t have to have any knowledge
of yoga to have a Thai Yoga Massage. The practitioner
will move you through the series. You just
need to relax and enjoy.
